This letter concerns the accounts of the late Captain John Frederick Soilleux. Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, acknowledges the receipt of Captain James Thomas Molesworth's letter, dated 21 February 1824, and informs Lieutenant Colonel Edward Baker that the letter has been transferred to Captain Evan Jervis, who is in possession of the late Captain Soilleux's account and will be able to furnish the information required.1 folio
This letter refers to a letter of remonstrance which was addressed by Captain Henry Hardy, then in charge of the Residency, to Zeckee Khan, Minister to the Prince of Shirauz [Shiraz], regarding plans of an expedition against Bahrein [Bahrain]. Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, encloses a translation of a letter addressed by him to the Prince of Shirauz [Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mīrzā], together with a translation of His Royal Highness's reply. The enclosures are not included here, but they can be found earlier in the volume (see ff 24v-25 and ff 47v-48 respectively).1 folio

Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, informs John Wedderburn, Accountant General, Bombay, that he has forwarded a register of two sets of bills (not included), drawn by Stannus from the Honourable Governor in Council, in order to meet the demands of the Residency.1 folio
This letter concerns what Ephraim Gerrish Stannus refers to as an outrage, which was reported to have been committed on a Debay [Dubai] boat at Hawellah (see ff 51-52). Stannus informs William Newnham that further enquiries have led him to conclude that reports of the incident were groundless. He states that he considers it necessary to reprimand Ruzza Ali [Riza Ali Khan], Native Agent at Sharga [Sharjah], for having reported an incident of such a serious nature without first ascertaining that it had some foundation of truth.1 folio

Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, transmits a copy of a letter (not included) from Major Willock, which includes a translation of a royal firman addressed to the Governor General of Fars. Stannus states that it is not clear whether the firman, which prohibits the imposition of any new duties on horses or other property belonging to British subjects, has been authorised by the Persian Government. Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, encloses a letter (not included) from His Royal Highness the Prince of Shiraz [Ḥusayn ‘Alī Mīrzā], which was brought to Bushire by Hadjee Zoorab Khan, who also brought with him a khillat [khilat] to mark Stannus's appointment at Resident at Bushire.1 folio
In this letter Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, suggests that the salaries of Ruzza Ali [Riza Ali Khan], Native Agent at Sharga [Sharjah], and Moolla Hoossein, Agent at Magoo [Bandar-e Moghūyeh], be increased to 150 rupees per month and 50 rupees per month respectively.2 folios
In this letter Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, makes the case for the salary of the current Persian Writer at the Residency, Moolla Mahomed, to be raised from 100 rupees per month to 150 rupees per month.2 folios
In this letter Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, acknowledges Henry Willock's letter of 9 January 1824, which requested information on trade in the Persian Gulf. Stannus states that he has taken preliminary steps to obtain the necessary information. He informs Willock that he will delay any further reply until he can ascertain whether his enquiries are likely to be of any assistance in framing Willock's report to Government.1 folio
In this letter Ephraim Gerrish Stannus, Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire, informs Major George Willock, Secretary to His Majesty's Mission to the Court of Persia, that two of the letters in an accompanying packet are addressed to him. Stannus states that these two letters have been enclosed under a flying seal. He requests that Willock forward the dispatch to its destination. This letter is dated 13 March 1824, but it is most likely that the correct date is 13 May 1824.1 folio
