4. Black granite fragment of an Egyptian statue base, probably dating to the Late Period, Dynasty 30, Ptolemaic Period, ca. 378 - 30 BC. The fragment shows the remains of a relief cartouche on its top surface and two partially preserved vertical columns of incised hieroglyphic text. On its side edge, three figures of kneeling deities are carved in sunk relief. Each holds an offering tray and a libation vessel. The fragment joins another fragment in this collection, catalogue number 6279, accession ; group 1950 (Barringer collection). Max. L. 21 cm, H. 10 cm. 5. Fragment of relief sculpture carved in extremely shallow raised relief showing a man carrying papyrus. He is facing towards the viewer's right with close cropped hair and wearing a short kilt typical of the Old Kingdom style. He has the harvested papyrus slung on his back, kept in place by means of a rope held in his hands. Part of a register line appears at the top of the relief and there are the remains of another object or figure in the lower right corner. Limestone. The surface is worn and ; weathered with serious scratching and pitting. Slight traces of pigment remain, most notably fleshtone pigment on the bearer's far leg. Old Kingdom.
